"For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment..." (Romans 12:3). In the Bible pride is viewed by God as a sin of the very first order. Why? Because, as Al Martin puts it, "every breathing of pride in its first stirrings, if it had its way, would run and tear the crown off God' head." But, God will be God and demands submissive, humble obedience. He abhors the creature trying to play the Creator.
