God's LOVE
is so much more than hollow sweet-talking. He "so loved the world that He
gave..." Or, to put it in different words, He DID something with His love.
And, what He did was tough, hard and totally self-sacrificing. Ponder this description:
("For you
have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving
you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was
any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in
return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to
Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the
cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His
wounds you were healed" 1 Peter 2:21-24.)
Lucy, bless her desparate soul,
approached the love-of-her-life ever so carefully, but it still didn't work. Ah, Poor Lucy, but her love proved rather empty given the fact she gave up so
quickly, storming off in a huff. Hollow sweet-talking? Seems so. But such is
the way all of us behave all too often.
Let's listen again to the Apostle of
love, John, when he says, "Little children, let us not love with word or
with tongue, but in deed and truth" (1 John 3:18). God's love is more an
action than a feeling, which fact succinctly corrects our worldly notions of
love. Yes?
