OLD AGE COMFORT......

THINGS DO CHANGE when age advances. I read about a couple who had been married fifty years. One evening the wife said, "Things have really changed. You used to sit very close to me." The hubby said, "Well, I can remedy that," moving next to her on the couch. "And you used to hold me tight" "How's that?" he asked as he gave her a hug. "Do you remember you used to nudge my neck and nibble on my ear lobes?" He jumped to his feet and left the room. She inquired, "Where are you going?" He responded, "I'll be right back. I've got to get my teeth!"

Adjustments are numerous and we tend to deny them but we soon catch up. Reality hit one oldster when he sensed someone helping him across the street. He thought it was a boy or girl scout. It turned out to be an old lady who, he was sure, was much older than he.

But, Christians find peace and are comforted having a God who sees them from birth to the grave. Washed in the blood of Jesus and reckoned perfectly righteous in Jesus Christ they experience ease of soul to know He is with them. In fact, He proves to be "a very present help in trouble." And, the troubles of old age can be multitude.

But God is with us at all stages of life. I love the following passage and have read it and talked about it with many aged people. And now that I'm on in years I find it so reassuring.

"O Lord God, You are my confidence from my youth.
    By You I have been sustained from my birth;
  You are He who took me from my mother’s womb;
  My praise is continually of You.
       I have become a marvel to many,
  For You are my strong refuge.
    My mouth is filled with Your praise
  And with Your glory all day long.
    Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
  Do not forsake me when my strength fails."
(Psalm 71:5-9)
